Annotation:

The European Union's desire to achieve carbon neutrality and meet its international climate commitments is at odds with the need to ensure sustainable economic growth with an uninterrupted supply of affordable and as clean energy as possible. In times of crisis, these tensions are exacerbated and disputes over which energy resources are considered clean and which risk factors can be neglected come to the surface. In 2002–2003, these debates concern the fate of nuclear power and the potential for natural gas.
