The authors of the article consider the problems and prospects of de-carbonization of the fuel and energy complex of the Russian Federation as a necessary prerequisite for ensuring a climate-neutral future of our country in the world. Modern challenges and directions of de-carbonization of the fuel and energy complex in the Russian Federation and in the world are determined. The impact of the greenhouse gas emissions increase on climate change is analyzed and the necessity for urgent measures realization to reduce emissions of CO2 and other harmful substances into the atmosphere is justified. Modern approaches and initiatives aimed at de-carbonization are being explored, such as: combating methane emissions, eliminating all non-emergency flaring, mining enterprises electrification by low-carbon electricity, equipping oil and gas processes with carbon capture and storage systems (CCUS), expanding the use of low-emission hydrogen produced by CCUS electrolysis,as well as "green hydrogen" produced using electricity from renewable energy sources in refineries, the production and use of "green" ammonia, ammonia-powered ships, including in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, the introduction of "green" technologies in industry, energy efficiency projects, the development of electric mobility and others. The progress of Russia in this direction is highlighted and the key threats faced by the country when implementing de-carbonization projects, programs and strategies are considered. The data obtained underline the necessity of active international cooperation and implementation of a number of measures to achieve global climate neutrality among them reduction of the percentage of flaring by oil and gas producing enterprises of the Russian Federation.
