Annotation:
The authors of the article consider the current situation of investing money in oil fields exploration and development in terms of the emerging dynamics of costs, their country and regional distribution, the main influencing factors; forecasts of capital investments changes in the context of energy transformation. The characteristics of capital expenditures in the upstream oil segment are presented, taking into account the costs of creating new capacities and compensating for the decline of existing assets. The dynamics of cash flows for global integrated oil companies is given as well as the practice of distributing cash flows for investments into new production, dividends payments and reverse share issues. The key factors of production growth, investments and efficiency in the US shale industry are considered.
