The need to develop and improve corrosion monitoring systems requires considering the possibility of using acoustic emission monitoring systems to control general corrosion of crude oil distillation plants. The aim of the work was to iden-tify the source of acoustic emission during corrosion of carbon steel at rates close to those in operating conditions of these facilities. It was found that under carbon steel corrosion the main source of acoustic emission is hydrogen generated during cathodic reaction. The AE method can be considered as the basis for the creation of corrosion monitoring systems designed to control on-line the corrosion of the equipment and piping lines of the heads of the crude distillation unit.
