Method of soot analysis in engine oil using TGA analysis

Annotation:

The paper proposes a modification of the method of thermogravimetric analysis of soot in diesel engine waste oil approved by ASTM D7899–19 Standard Test Method for Measuring the Merit of Dispersion of In-Service Engine Oils with Blotter Spot Method. Modification of the method consists in minimizing the effect of metal-containing additives used to regulate the properties of diesel engine oils on the resulting residue in the crucible during experiments. The negative effect of additives on the final value of the residue content is shown on commercial base oils for heavy-duty diesel engines of the LUKOIL VHVI-4 group III brands and commercial oil of the SAE 5W-40 group I (premium all-season oil). A statistical analysis of the relative uncertainties of the experiments was carried out, which showed a significant improvement in the experimental data. Heptane was used as a modifier of the method, a mixture of carbon black grades N220, N330, N660 was used as a carbon black model.
