Reorientation of the natural gas exports vector from Russia – a political whim or an objective necessity?

Annotation:
The Russian gas market is currently developing under the influence of a number of negative factors such as sanctions pressure, open diversions on the pipelines of the “Nord Stream” and the intensification of competition for European gas markets, which leads to search for new markets for hydrocarbons export. The results of the analysis of natural gas markets for the period 2012–2021, and the dynamics of export supplies of pipeline gas and LNG to the markets of Europe and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region showed that the reorientation of Russian gas export from the European to the Asian direction is not a political whim, but an objective necessity associated with the growing needs of natural gas in the rapidly developing markets of the Asia-Pacific countries, due to the outpacing growth of the economy and population of the region. The gas market of the Asia-Pacific countries is perspective for Russia. At the moment Russia has a sufficient level of natural gas production, as well as the already built and constantly developing infrastructure for gas export by pipeline systems or LNG, without involving transit countries, for long-term natural gas supplies to the Asia-Pacific countries.
