Annotation:

The Siljan ring structure, located in the central part of Sweden, is considered by many researchers as a meteorite (impact) crater. However, there is another point of view, explaining that the origin of the Siljan crater may be associated with explosive eruptions and be endogenous. Laboratory studies of the sedimentary rock samples taken from four exploratory wells drilled in the vicinity of the Siljan ring crater made it possible to compile their detailed lithological description. The main components of rocks (minerals and fragments), their ratio and secondary transformations were determined. The results of textural analysis of samples, structural and mineralogical analysis of rocks in thin sections showed that the composition of sediments of the sedimentary cover on the territory of the Siljan ring structure varies in different areas in accordance with their facies and stratigraphic characteristics. Along with this, a change in the thicknesses of the sections and the sequence of change of rock packs was established. This is presumably due to tectonic faults of an endogenous or impact nature.
