Annotation:

The answers to questions related to the impact of energy on the planet’s climate, the need to achieve carbon neutrality to ensure the sustainable development of mankind are very contradictory in the assessments of many experts and specialists. The article is a continuation of a series of publications by the authors on carbon neutrality and the impact of energy on the environment. The analysis of energy consumption in the G20 countries was carried out. The results of the study of the dependence of the indicator of specific carbon dioxide emissions on the share of organic fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in the organic fuel used and “carbon-free” energy in the energy consumption balance of the G20 countries are presented. These show that the use of natural gas at the present stage of the development of world energy largely determines the ecological purity of energy. Russia's energy sector, which has the highest share of natural gas consumption in the energy consumption balance among all G20 countries and, due to this, the lowest index of specific carbon dioxide emissions, is therefore the cleanest among the G20 countries.
