The answers to the questions related to the impact of energy on the planet’s climate, the need to achieve carbon neutrality to ensure the sustainable development of mankind are very contradictory in the assessments of many experts and specialists. The fight against climate change has become a big politicized business in recent years. The problem of climate change is one of the most important arguments of numerous supporters of the “green” development of the world economy against carbon energy. At the same time, current research is increasingly focusing on the anthropogenic theory of global warming and the role of carbon dioxide emissions in this process. Many organizations involved in combating climate change provide graphs of changes in actual temperatures, as well as numerous forecasts of global warming by the end of the century. The results of research conducted over a number of years at National University of Oil and Gas “Gubkin University” have shown that, of course, the climate agenda is very relevant. However the assessment of the impact of carbon dioxide on global warming is greatly exaggerated. Emissions of anthropogenic gases have decreased over the past twenty years, while temperatures, according to actual data and projections, continue to rise. It is shown that climate change can be influenced by many different factors. The arguments proposed by the proponents of the anthropogenic theory of global warming are analyzed, and it is shown that many of them are far from being true, and in some cases are simply falsified.
