Determination of operational properties of oil compositions with α-phenyl-β-nitroethene biocide

Annotation:

New generation lubricants that meet high requirements are widely used in present-day vehicles and machinery, especially on ships, tractors, stationary and other diesel engines. When stored for a certain period of time, used lubricants are subject to mechanical stress during operation and microbiological damage by environmental microorganisms. As a result, the key physicochemical and operational properties of lubricants change, rendering them unsuitable for further use. The study of additives that ensure the quality, operational, and other necessary characteristics of lubricants, compounds, and biocides aims to prolong the storage life of lubricants and enhance their economic efficiency by improving resistance to biological degradation. The article identifies the impact of biocides, included in additives, on the requirements for the physicochemical parameters of lubricating oils. It is found that a 0,25 % concentration of the biocide α-phenyl-β-nitroethene in the additive composition enhances its resistance to biodegradation without adversely affecting corrosion and oxidation properties, thus ensuring operational efficiency.
