Annotation:

In the context of the oil and gas content of the Mesozoic section of northeastern Sakhalin and the adjacent shelf, the fluid-supporting strata of the Cenozoic sedimentary cover are considered, which together with the Mesozoic reservoir may form traps for hydrocarbon deposits. The main role in shielding potential Mesozoic reservoirs is assigned to Paleogene sediments, which are ubiquitous within northeastern Sakhalin and the adjacent shelf. Siliceous-clayey sediments of the Tumskaya Formation, predominantly siliceous sediments of the Pilengskaya Formation, and terrigenous-clayey sediments of the Machigarskaya and Mutnovskaya Formations are considered as fluid supports. The Cenozoic strata stratigraphically overlying the Cretaceous floor and acting as potential fluidsuppressors were analyzed. Among other things, significant disjunctive disturbance of the sedimentary cover had a negative impact on the shielding properties of the fluidophores. Based on the lithological and petrophysical characterization of these strata, the subdivisions were ranked according to the “quality” of section shielding. The problem of fracturing of potential covers depending on the lithologic composition and catagenesis level of rocks is considered. In the Cenozoic section of the North Sakhalin Oblast, there are no regional fluid covers with high isolation properties.
