Annotation:
The purpose of the work was to clarify the structure of the southern part of the Karpinsky ridge based on the totality of geological exploration carried out during high-resolution seismic exploration and drilling of offshore wells throughout its entire length in the Caspian Sea. Its appearance was confirmed during the Hercynian and Alpine stages of orogeny as a result of the progressive geodynamic movement from south to north of the Arabian Plate. The complex fault–block structure of deposits inherited from the Hercynian orogeny and the complex structure of the megawall in productive Jurassic-Cretaceous deposits have been established. The megawall along these deposits north of the Shell-Latitudinal Megawall proved to be an insurmountable obstacle to the movement northward of gaseous hydrocarbons migrating from the south, which filled all the traps on their way along the megawall hinge.
