Lineament systems and fupture tectonics of the eastern side of the Caspian depression in connection with oil and gas potentiality

Annotation:

The work is devoted to the study of the spatial connection of hydrocarbon deposits with a network of lineaments identified as a result of computer interpretation of satellite images. The study area is the eastern side of the Caspian basin. The research examines a network of lineaments reflecting faults or fracture zones. It is established that elementary streaks correspond to megafractures and have a predominantly submeridional and northwestern direction. Based on the density of strokes, two zones that differ in intensity are identified. “Clusters” similar in appearance to rose diagrams are identified, which, as a rule, show areas with a similar geological structure of the study area. It is determined that the lines of elongation of rose diagrams with some degree of probability characterize stress fields. The authors identified the main directions of lineaments. The lineaments are compared with the main faults of the basement of the Caspian basin. The large hydrocarbon deposits are proved to be located either on lineaments or at their intersections.
