Experience of drilling the first ultra-deep well in the USSR

Annotation:
Based on archival documents that have now become available, little-known stories from the history of drilling the first ultra-deep well in the USSR, the Aralsor well, are investigated. It is proved that the management of the Uralskneftegazrazvedka Trust and scientists from the Gubkin Moscow Institute of Petrochemical and Gas Industry had to overcome significant technical and organizational difficulties when contacting the central party and state governing bodies and proving the need to both start and prolong its drilling. The conclusion is formulated that the drilling of the Aralsor well, which did not reach the design depth, was at the same time the first experience of ultra-deep drilling in the USSR, provided a fundamentally new, unique factual material of exceptional interest to specialists in the oil, gas and mining industries as well as researchers.
