New direction for exploration and prospecting of hydrocarbon deposits in eastern part of the Russian platform in connection with development of ring structures and copper-bearing sandstone mineralization

Annotation:

The author has established that the oil and gas potential of the eastern part of the Russian Platform is associated with the development of ring structures in the Earth’s crust and copper-bearing sandstone deposits in the Ufimian-Tatarian formations. As a result, a new direction for the exploration and prospecting of hydrocarbon deposits is proposed in this area. A recommended sequence of exploration-prospecting workflows for previously identified ring structures with diameters of 250–700 km is suggested to optimize geological exploration costs. At the first stage, it is proposed to model the deep tectonic structure of the ring formations by reinterpreting the data from regional seismic surveys conducted in previous years. It is recommended to conduct information-analytical research to identify geodynamically active faults and to decode satellite imagery. Based on the results, blocks of the Earth's crust that have undergone uplifting and ring structures with diameters of up to 100 km should be identified. An analysis of these ring structures for the presence of copper-bearing sandstones within the Ufimian-Tatarian formations is proposed, with the aim of selecting priority targets for geological exploration. At the second stage, it is recommended to conduct detailed seismic surveys (3D seismic or CDP profiling methods) within the selected ring structures with diameters of up to 100 km. These surveys should target depths below the basement. Processing and interpretation of the seismic data should emphasize the identification of deep faults and "flower structures." Geochemical studies of the soil layer should also be conducted to detect anomalies in gas and metal concentration fields. The results should then be analyzed in combination with seismic data. At the third stage, it is advised to drill exploration and prospecting wells in zones containing reliable seals within the "flower structures." These zones should also correspond to areas of geochemical anomalies and uplifted tectonic-dynamic blocks. The feasibility of this new methodology is demonstrated using the Orenburg ring structure as a case study.
