Stability of horizontal well hole in layered-heteromogeneous formation

Annotation:
Using mathematical and computer modeling methods, the features of the stress-strain state of the near-wellbore zones of horizontal wells were studied. Based on the analysis, it was concluded that the stress-strain state of the wellbore zones when drilling their horizontal trunks differs significantly from the stress-strain state of these zones when drilling vertical wells in similar mining and geological conditions, which is due to the difference in the values of the vertical and lateral rock pressure. It was shown that the maximum concentration of excess stresses on the walls of a horizontal well, which significantly exceeded the concentration of stresses in the near-wellbore zone of a vertical well, occurred in the vicinity of the horizontally extreme points in the cross-section of the wellbore, which were the zones of the most intense rock destruction. It was established that when drilling horizontal wells in layered heterogeneous formations, when the wellbore crosses the interface between the layers of the formation, a significant concentration of compressive stresses occurred on the well wall located in a more rigid layer with a high Poisson's ratio, which could lead to the destruction of rock in this rigid layer. The results obtained can be applied in the development of methods for determining the density of drilling fluid, which ensures the stability of the walls of horizontal wells during the drilling process.
