The Siljan ring structure is one of the best-known meteorite craters in central Sweden. This area belongs to Transscandinavian Igneous Belt (TIB) of the Baltic Shield. The majority of rock types correspond to variation of granitoids, acid volcanic rocks and accompanying mafic intrusions. Comprehensive studies of rock samples from different locations in the Siljan area allow one to reconsider and refine a geological history of the Baltoscandia region. Samples of both sedimentary cover and basement rocks were collected and studied from four exploratory boreholes drilled within the structure’s framming. The detailed petrographic characteristics as well as petrochemical parameters were obtained. Three granitoids samples (eastern Solberga-1 borehole) and seven volcanic rocks samples (western VM-1 and VM-2 boreholes) were investigated with XRF analysis. The results obtained were compared with the published data and were established as the foundation for the preliminary interpretation of the genesis. The granitoids possess a characteristic similar to the most widespread granites of this area – the Siljan and Garberg types. These types are considered as the late post-Svecofenian intrusions. The chemical parameters of the acid volcanic rocks (western area) did not exhibit particular trends in distribution. There is only the opportunity to group the investigated samples according to the age of formation: older (1,8 Ga) and younger (1,7 Ga) formation.
