Annotation:

The paper substantiates the necessity of monitoring the state of abandoned wells to obtain information about their state and possible hydrocarbons outflows into the water column, being an important and urgent trend. The composition and sequence of the performed work on the search and monitoring of abandoned wells on the seabed include navigation-hydrographic, geophysical, underwater-technical, and geo-ecological studies. It is concluded that the application of technologies for underwater inspection of abandoned wellheads allows solving the assigned tasks to prevent and minimize the consequences of possible man-made disasters. Engineering and environmental inspection of abandoned wells are aimed at monitoring and ensuring the environmental safety of the ecosystem of the continental shelf of Russia, ensuring industrial safety, protection of subsoil and the environment.
