Float-peat as an optimal structurator for bioremediation of oil contaminated soils

Annotation:

The article reviews technologies and structurators (additives) used in the course of bioremediation works in the Russian Federation. Bioremediation is a nature-like technology that is currently successfully used throughout the world when cleaning up oil-contaminated soils and lands. The rate of bioremediation and its efficiency depend not only on the microorganisms used – oil destructors, but also on the ambient temperature, type of contaminated soils, moisture maintained during the process, pH, oxygen access, the ratio of nutrients, the presence of process inhibitors – pollutants as well as on the type of structurator used and the complex of structurators. The article presents the results of a lysimetric experiment in order to establish the level of secondary soil pollution when introducing structurants as well as the results of laboratory and pilot tests performed with the following types of structurators: highland peat, lowland peat, horse manure, biohumus (vermiculite). The main characteristics of lowland peat are revealed, which allow achieving maximum results during bioremediation.
