Assessment of the degree of surface water pollution during oil and gas field development

Annotation:

It is nowadays impossible to completely eliminate the environmental impact of oil and gas field development. Assessment of the environment contamination degree is required for making the proper management decisions on its conservation, safety and protection. The degree of surface water contamination is assessed by the indicators of surface water pollution and comparison of these indicators with normative values, which indicate the suitability of water for use. The purpose of the work was to assess the degree of surface waters pollution during the development of oil and gas fields applying various assessment methods. This article considered the methods for assessing the degree of surface water pollution, assessed the degree of their pollution according to the methods under consideration on the basis of monitoring data in one of the oil and gas fields as well as analyzed the results obtained. According to the data of assessment of the surface water pollution degree, their quality in the territory of the considered field is generally assessed as "clean", but there is a tendency of surface water quality deterioration and, therefore, the transition to the quality class of "moderately polluted". In future, it is recommended to pay attention to the deteriorating indicators of surface water quality and develop methods to reduce the impact on surface water.
