The role of safety culture when organizing and carrying out high-risk operations

Annotation:

The article discusses the safety culture role when organizing and carrying out high-risk operations. The oil and gas industry is one of the leading industries that include high-risk operations, the execution of which includes or may include industrial hazard, regardless of the nature of the work performed. The article presents statistical data on accidents when carrying out high-risk work that occurred in 2017–2021 at oil and gas deposits in the Russian Federation. Based on the analysis of statistical data, the main types of high-risk operations were identified, due to which the most accidents occur, including those with injuries and deaths. The main organizational causes of the high injury level during high-risk operations are considered. It is substantiated that in order to improve the labor protection culture in a company, it is not enough to motivate individual employees who perform work; personal participation and enthusiasm of the top management of production companies also plays a large role. Therefore, the necessity of introducing and maintaining a safety culture, which is one of the basic methods of managing the human factor and improving a company’s working conditions is stressed.
