The use of barrier logic technology in the industrial safety management system

Annotation:

The article present the results of improving the industrial safety management system for a typical oil producing company through the use of a risk-based approach, barrier logic technology and a checklist methodology. In order to substantiate the relevance of the issue under consideration, examples of undesirable incidents of one of the oil producing companies before the introduction of modern technologies into production practice are given. The methodology of risks ranking by management level and management decision-making body is disclosed. A hierarchy of selection and prioritization, clarification of risk management methods and implementation of safety barriers for specific production operations is presented. The principle of choosing a risk management technology and the application of organizational and technical security barriers is described. Using the example of a traffic accident in case of a sudden loss of control over a vehicle, the risk management methods application by means of safety barriers is shown using the "Bow Tie" diagram. The technology of barrier logics using the methodology of the checklist is also demonstrated on the example of a safety barrier – continuous monitoring of the gas-air environment when performing gas-hazardous work.
