The authors of the article consider the possibility of improving the environmental properties of petroleum-based diesel fuel by using biofuel as an additive. The process of obtaining biodiesel from grape seed oil, a waste product remaining after the production of various wines and fruit juices, was studied at the agro-industrial enterprise "Gyanja Sharab-II" JSC, operating in the western region of Azerbaijan, by using the transesterification method with CON as a catalyst, at the temperatures of 20, 40 and 60 °C and the ratio of oil to methanol of 1:3, 1:6, 1:12 mol. The obtained results showed that when the molar ratio of oil to methanol makes 1:12 and the temperature is 60 °C, the biodiesel yield increased from 600 to 100 %. The biodiesel composition was analyzed by using Infrared (IR) spectroscopy and supported by peaks, proving the fact that it was formed due to transesterification of vegetable oils. The obtained fuel is not inferior to diesel fuel in its physical-chemical properties, and surpasses it in its environmental and operational properties. To improve the operational and environmental properties of diesel fuel, it is necessary to use biofuel as an additive.
