Breakdown of gas condensate – formation water emulsion in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor

Annotation:

It is noted that when developing the Achimov deposits of the Urengoy oil and gas condensate field, "Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy" LLC encountered the problem of carbon dioxide corrosion. The use of corrosion inhibitors and their accumulation above the micelle critical concentration at the condensate–formation water interface leads to the formation of a kinetically stable emulsion, significantly complicating wastewater treatment prior their injection into the formation. The authors of the article describe the reasons and mechanisms of emulsion formation during the operation of the formation water treatment facility at Complex Gas Treatment Unit (CGTU)-21 and look for the most effective method to be applied for breaking the gas condensate–formation water emulsion.
